Freedom Summer Collection at the Western Archives
Photo Archives:
In 1964, when Miami University Professor Emeritus Roland Duerksen was on the faculty of Purdue University, he traveled to Jackson, Mississippi, to teach in a Freedom School and participate in voter registration efforts. These photos document his experiences and those of other Freedom Summer volunteers.
Documents Collection:
Founded in 1998, the Western College Memorial Archives is dedicated to acquiring and preserving any and all materials related to the Western College for Women.
The archives lays claim to materials from the Board of Trustee records dating back to 1853, original material from Western College's various Presidents (including Helen Peabody, Leila McKee and William Boyd), an impressive photograph collection and much more.

The Western College Memorial Archives is always seeking more items for the Mississippi Freedom Summer Collection. We ask for donations of archival items to expand the research collection. Items can be donated during the Finding Freedom Summer National Conference or sent via United States mail to Western College Memorial Archives, 107 Peabody Hall, Oxford, OH 45056.
